DefensePro uses largely stateless packet protections and behavioral techniques that establish baselines, detect deviations, analyze suspicious traffic, and apply mitigation. Covariant continuously filters according to the workload-defined policy, so the protection state does not need to change when attack traffic appears.
DefensePro is designed primarily around stateless, packet-based flood protection, with optional TCP out-of-state protection. Covariant begins with the destination service and can use communication context where state matters to distinguish traffic that belongs from traffic that does not.
Covariant is intended for providers with VPS, dedicated servers, colocation, game hosting, and transit workloads. New services can begin receiving protected traffic without requiring the operator or customer to select and maintain a mitigation profile.
